NEWTEN’S PORCELAIN PANTHER EPISODE#006 - MR BINGO

Episode Six of Newten’s Porcelain Panther features the enigmatic and prolific Mr Bingo in Panther HQ for some late night Lahmacun and beers. Bingo has had a hugely successful career in illustration over the past 10 years and in 2012 released his book, ‘Hate Mail’ to great acclaim. We sat down one evening and had a chat with Monsieur Bingo about fighting, killing insects, love, hate and emoticons.

This conversation was recorded in early March at Jim and Ben’s studio in East London. We got drunk and smoked cigarettes out the window.

NEWTEN’S PORCELAIN PANTHER EPISODE#005 - JONATHAN EDWARDS & FELT MISTRESS

Recorded in December 2012, Episode Five of Newten’s Porcelain Panther has been a little delayed due to Jim and Ben’s other jobs but it was worth the wait! Joining us for our fifth podcast are the wonderfully talented and eternally lovely, Jonathan Edwards and Felt Mistress (aka. Louise Evans). Jonathan is a veteran illustrator and artist who relentlessly and effortlessly draws just about anything and everything. Felt Mistress is the premier felt artist in the UK and concocts incredible 3D sculptures which she exhibits internationally. In London for the launch of their ‘Creature Coulture’ book we kidnapped this talented and straight talking couple for a chat and some hot music selections.

This conversation was recorded in early December 2012 in a meeting room at Foyle’s Bookshop near Leicester Square. We got to have a look around ‘The Creature Couture’ exhibition and view their new book. Jim bought a coffee. Ben doesn’t like coffee.

NEWTEN’S PORCELAIN PANTHER EPISODE#004 - CERI LEVY

For episode four of Newten’s Porcelain Panther, Jim and Ben navigated the London public transport system over to Shepherd’s Bush to chat to documentary film maker, Ceri Levy. A hilarious and fascinating gentleman, Ceri has made documentaries for bands such as Blur (‘Starshaped’) and the Gorillaz (‘Bananaz’) and in recent years has been working long and hard on his new project, ‘The Bird Effect’. His involvement with the ‘Ghost Of Gone Birds’ helped propel the project into the public consciousness and led onto him working with artist, Ralph Steadman on a book about extinct birds called ‘Extinct Boids’. A keen bird-spotter, Ceri has been heavily involved in helping promote awareness of illegal bird hunting with BirdLife International and Ben and a group of artists went to Malta with Ceri in April to see the effects firsthand.

This conversation was recorded in late October at Ceri’s flat in Shepherd’s Bush. Jim and Ben sat on the sofa and Ceri sat on a office chair. Ben went to toilet three times. Jim went once.

NEWTEN’S PORCELAIN PANTHER EPISODE#003 - JON BURGERMAN

In the third episode of Newten’s Porcelain Panther, Jim and Ben were joined by artist Jon Burgerman for tea, chocolate caramel Digestive biscuits, music and CLASS A chat. Jon and his energetic talent now reside in beautiful Brooklyn, New York, so while the Burgermeister was in the Big Smoke we invited him to brave the London transport system (in the rain) and come and speak with us. What follows is our most frenetic and lively podcast yet! (NB- Michael Landly created the work ‘Burn what what you love…’ not Jeremy Deller. We were all excited and confused. Sorry)

Jon Burgerman’s distinctive aesthetic has been seen all over the world from galleries to T-shirts, toys, books, shoes and video games…… even napkins and pizzas. His vibrant, energetic and colourful flare is instantly recognisable and a joy to behold.

The following conversation took place on a rainy Monday afternoon in October round Jim’s Kitchen table. (No alcohol was used in the recording of this podcast.)

NEWTEN’S PORCELAIN PANTHER EPISODE#002 - PETE FOWLER

For the second episode of Newten’s Porcelain Panther we were fortunate enough to grab the esteemed Pete Fowler for a pint in the pub and a few tins of Red Stripe back at podcast HQ. Both Jim and Ben spent their teenage years perusing the Super Furry Animals’ artwork with awe so it was a great honour to spend some quality time with Señor Fowler who masterminded these visual delights. Pete’s work is so connected to music that we were excited to see what audio morsels he would present us… we weren’t disappointed.

Pete Fowler dips into commercial projects but stretches into many personal projects ranging from toys to paintings to apps and strangely enough, bikes! All of which falls under his Monsterist umbrella.
